European Championships medallist decided to retire

European Championships medallist decided to retire 22.5.2020

Slovenian parakayaker Dejan Fabčič decided to retire after the European Paralympic qualification and Paralympic Games have been postponed. The decision was not easy for 2016 ECA Paracanoe European Championships medallist.

Dejan Fabčič had the most successful season in 2016 when he picked up bronze medal at European Championships in Moscow and finished sixth at the Rio Paralympic Games. Fifth place at World Championships and World Cup medal are also among his greatest achievements.

“These are the milestones that I will always remember. The past years were difficult but filled with great memories. I would like to thank everyone who helped me. Every story has an end and now is the right one for mine in canoeing. I was supposed to fight for Olympic ticket at European qualifications now, but due to virus everything was postponed,” said Fabčič, who works as a doctor in diabetes thyroid clinic in Nova Gorica.  This year he wanted to try one more time to be a part of the Paralympic Games. Besides his successful paracanoeing performance in Rio de Janeiro he competed at paralympic Games also in 2008 in swimming.
