European sprinters at the top of the second World Cup race in Duisburg 27.5.2018

Duisburg hosted the second World Cup event of the season. European paddlers again showed their strength at the regatta course in Germany. Czech canoeist Martin Fuksa prolonged his winning streak with wins in men’s C1 1000 and 500 metres finals, Yul Oeltze and Peter Kretschmer (GER) also picked up two gold medals in front of their fans, winning in men’s C2 1000 and 500 metres events. Max Hoff (GER) finished the weekend with gold medals in men’s K2 1000 metres event together with Marcus Gross and was also the fastest in men’s K1 5000 metres event.


Max Rendschmidt (GER) was the fastest kayaker in 1000 metres final, and celebrated another gold medal in K4 500m event together with Rauhe, Liebscher and Lemke. Another gold medal for Germany was won by AnnikaLoske who won in C1W 5000 metres event. It was a great weekend for Swedish paddler Linnea Stensils who won in women’s K1 500 metres final and picked two more silver medals in 200 and 5000 metres races. Russian team celebrated wins in men’s K1 200 metres final thanks to Evgenii Lukantsov and another gold in men’s C2 200m event with Alexander Kovalenko and Ivan Shtyl, who was the fastest in C1 200m final as well. Hungarian paddler Kolos Csizmadia picked up gold medal in K2 200 metres event with Levente Apagyi and was third in K1 200m final. Josef Dostal (CZE) won in men’s K1 500 metres final, Marta Walczykiewicz (POL) in women’s 200 metres event and Slovak duo Peter Gelle – Adam Botek in K2 500 metres final.  
 
The next major competition for best European canoe sprinters will be the 2018 ECA Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe European Championships in Belgrade (8 – 10 June).
