Exhibition events to open the championships' week in Prague

Exhibition events to open the championships' week in Prague 30.5.2018

Today the 2018 ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships will officially begin with the opening ceremony, while the first events will start on Friday, when we will see the heats in all categories. Canoeing events in Prague, however, were on the programme even before the official start of championships. Vltava River hosted two traditional promotional events, called Paddleride and Prague Riverside Cross.

The first event was more oriented towards recreational paddlers, even though we saw some top athletes taking part as well. The short recreational paddling trip started near the boathouse in Troja, where the championships will take place, and the trip lead under the many bridges of Czech capital, including world’s famous Charles Bridge. The event ended in the city centre, in so called Kampa Island.

The second promotional event of the week took place near the city centre in Rašínovo nábřeží. The Prague Riverside Cross combines canoeing and biathlon and always attracts many top names from canoe slalom. This year it was French paddler Camille Prigent who celebrated a win in women’s kayak event, ahead of Tereza Fišerova from Czech Republic and Martina Wegman from Netherlands. In men’s kayak it was Hannes Aigner who showed the best paddling and shooting skills this time, finishing ahead of Tomaš Zima (CZE) and Mario Leitner (AUT). Tomaš Rak (CZE), Alexander Slafkovsky (SVK) and Pierre-Antoine Tillard (FRA) were the best in men’s canoe event.
