Fair play award for Czech Wildwater paddlers

Fair play award for Czech Wildwater paddlers 18.4.2018

Czech wildwater kayakers Richard Hala, Kamil Mružek and Filip Hric received a fair play award that was awarded to them by the Czech Fair play Club. They were recognized for their action during the 2017 ECA Wildwater Canoeing European Championships in Skopje, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

During the last year’s Wildwater Canoeing European Championships in the sprint team event there were some troubles with the time keeping and final scores. Time keeping services made a mistake in recording the run of the Czech team and it seemed Czech paddlers were the new European Champions. Slovenian team found the final time a bit odd and wanted to protest the scores.

“They were pretty upset and wanted to protest. But by noticing the mistakes everything was settled faster. Then we shook hands and smiled,” said Filip Hric.

Richard Hala explained what actually happened, “I came to the finish first. The time has stopped even though it should be stopped when the last boat crosses the finish line. Guys behind me noticed this.”

At the end Czech Republic finished the race in third place and Slovenian team celebrated European Champion title.
