The traditional international Tatra Slalom is celebrating its 74^th edition this year and is also a part of the 2022 ECA European Open Canoe Slalom Cup race series. The race in Liptovsky Mikulaš is a good test before the 2022 ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships starts later this month at the same venue.

 

On the first competition day the heats were on the programme and the favourites did not have much problems advancing to Sunday’s semifinals. In women’s kayak heats reigning European Champion Corinna Kuhnle (AUT) produced the best time, 0.23 seconds faster than Polish kayaker Klaudia Zwolinska, while Italian Stefanie Horn finished the heats in third position.

 

 

Olympic Champion Benjamin Savšek (SLO) was the best in men’s C1 heats. Slovak canoeist Marko Mirgorodsky was faster on the course, but had one touch, so he had to settle with second place after the heats, while Italian Raffaello Ivaldi finshed third.

 

In women’s canoe heats Italian Marta Bertoncelli showed the best run of the day, crossing the finish line more than three and a half seconds faster than Ukrainian Viktoriia Us, while Swiss representative Alena Marx advanced to the semifinal with third time of the heats.

 

Local favourite and Tokyo Olympic medallist Jakub Grigar was the best in men’s kayak heats. Giovanni De Gennaro (ITA) paddled faster but had a touch so was second in the heats, while Polish paddler Michal Pasiut produced the third time of the heats.

 

On Sunday, the competition will continue with semifinals and finals.
