Favourites on the top of the scoreboard on the opening day of Canoe Freestyle European Championships 16.8.2018

Bratislava, Slovakia, not only hosts the Canoe Slalom Junior and U23 European Championships, but also the 2018 ECA Canoe Freestyle European Championships, which is run in the channel next to where the slalom competition is held. On the opening day of championships men's K1 and C2 and women's junior K1 events preliminary rounds were organised. 


In men's K1 preliminary round we've seen 36 competitors coming from Spain, Slovakia, Poland, Belgium, Sweden, France, Ireland, Austria, Finland, Germany, Great Britain and Netherlands. 
Joaquim Fontane I Maso from Spain concluded the first day of championships on the top with a total of 2393,33 points. Local favourite Peter Csonka from Slovakia finished men's K1 preliminary round in a second position with 2330,00 pointsm while Tomasz Czaplicki from Poland occupied third place with a total of 2286,67 points.
 
Top ten athletes advanced to the next competition round. Besides the previously mentioned top three kayakers, the following freestylers will show their skills on Saturday: Lane De Meulenaere (BEL), Max Karlsson (SWE), Sebastien Devred (FRA), Bartosz Czauderna (POL), Thomas Dunohy (IRL), Marcel Bloder (AUT) and Visa Rahkola (FIN).
 
Lukaš Červinka from Czech Republic was the winner of men's C1 preliminary round, having 1756,67 points on his account. Second and third place of the day went to France thanks to Sebastien Devred with 1346,67 points and Tom Dolle with a total of 1020,00 points. Besides them Jean Yves Moustrou (FRA) and Philip Josef (GER) also advance to the next round.
 
The final preliminary event of the day was women's junior K1 event where Otille Robinson. Shaw from Great Britain convinced judges with her performance the most. She received a total of 1113,33 points and none of the other athletes could not come even close. Isabelle Voelkel from Germany was second with 380,00 points and Silvia Gallego Munoz from Spain third with 283,33 points. Caroline Meyer from Germany and Abi Goddard from Great Britain also advanced to the next round.
 
On Friday the preliminary round in women's K1 and men's K1 junior events will follow.
