Favourites safely through to the first finals of the 2024 ECA Canoe Sprint, Paracanoe and SUP European Championships 13.6.2024

On the second day of the 2024 ECA Canoe Sprint, Paracanoe and SUP European Championships in Szeged, Hungary, we saw the first canoe sprint and paracanoeing competitions this week. The day was dedicated to heats.


The main favourites did not have many problems advancing to the next stages of the competition and the A finals.
 
There were six heats in paracanoeing held on Thursday where the top three athletes in each group advanced to the final. In men's VL3 200 metres events Vladyslav Yepifanov (UKR), Stuart Wood (GBR), Abel Aber (FRA), Markus Swoboda (AUT), Mirko Nicoli (ITA) and Maik Polte (GER) booked the tickets for the final with their performances in the first stage of the competition. In men's VL2 200 meters events the first finalists became Robert Suba (HUN) and Higinio Rivero (ESP) as the winners of their respective groups as well as Andrii Kryvchun (UKR), Miroslav Sperk (CZE), Norberto Mourao (POR) and Marius Ciustea (ITA). In the men's KL3 heats Juan Valle (ESP), Jon Tarrant (GBR), Kwadzo Klokpah (ITA), Mateusz Surwilo (POL), Ron Halevi (ISR) and Andrii Syvykh (UKR) advanced directly to the A final.
 
The host nation announced they will be the main favourites for the medals in majority of the events. Hungarian boats set the fastest times in their respective heats groups in men's K4 500 metres event with Nadas, Csizmadia, Kuli and Totka, women's K1 1000 meters with Eszter Rendessy, men's K1 1000 metres with Balint Kopasz, in women's K1 200 metres with Anna Lucz, men's K2 1000 metres event with Vajda - Szabo, women's K2 200 metres event with Kiss - Lucz, women's K1 500 metres event with Tamara Csipes, men's K1 event in the same distance with Adam Varga, women's K2 500 metres event with Gazso - Csipes and men's K2 500 metres with Nadas  - Totka,
 
There are several other great names who qualified easily to the next round. Fernando Pimenta (POR) produced the fastest times in his heats both on 1000 and 500 metres, Martin Fuksa (CZE) did the same in men's canoe, Italians Gabriele Casadei and Carlo Tacchini did this in men's C2 1000 and 500 metres events ...
 
Poland was happy with the wins in heats groups in seven events, thanks to Dorota Borowska, Oleksii Koliadych, Jakub Stepun - Przemyslaw Korsak, Aleksander Kitewski - Oleksii Koliadych, Slawomir Witczak, Justyna Iskrzycka - Katarzyna Kolodziejczyk and men's K1 1000 metres crew.
 
Friday will start with semifinals in canoe sprint, and the first sets of medals in canoe sprint and paracanoeing will be awarded in the afternoon. We will see eight canoe sprint A finals, two paracanoe finals as well as SUP sprint finals A.
 
 

The A finals of the 2024 ECA Canoe Sprint, Paracanoe and SUP European Championships on Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be streamed online exclusively at Eurovision Sport platform www.eurovisionsport.com, while the Wednesday’s and Thursday’s programme and non-televised events will be live on www.youtube.com/CanoeEurope. The following TV stations will broadcast the Championships between Friday and Sunday: MTVA Hungary, Ceska TV Czechia, JOJ Sport Slovakia, RTP Portugal, RTVE Spain, RAI Sport Italy, RTV Slovenia.
