International media was filled with news on Slovenian cyclist Primož Roglič, who won this year’s edition of Vuelta. He used to be a ski jumper, so many found his very successful transition from ski jumping to cycling interesting. However, he is not the only one.

 

26-year-old Swiss sportswoman Elise Chabbey wrote a story of successful transition too. In her earlier sporting years she used to be a Swiss representative in the national canoe slalom team. In her canoeing career she participated at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and European and World Championships. After retiring from kayaking she focused on her studies of medicine at Geneva University. During this time she kept her fitness running and switched to cycling quite late. She advanced quickly and already took part in the road cycling World Championships this year.

 

“I did not ride bicycles until three years ago. I did not think much of cycling. Doping buzzed in my mind about this sport. I did not want to do any team sport anyway. Three years ago, for some reason, I started cycling. And it was always more fun for me. I knew for a long time that my prejudices were wrong. When I do something, I stand behind it and give it my all. That's my character. And now I'm even more focused than I used to be. I took the last exams at the university. Now I can concentrate fully on cycling and no longer have to learn in the car during the long drives to the races. I want to be in Tokyo in 2020,” she said in an interview for Blick.
