Former German Canoe Sprinter Ronald Rauhe with an autobiography

Former German Canoe Sprinter Ronald Rauhe with an autobiography 27.12.2024

Ronald Rauhe is not one of the World’s best canoe sprinters of all times, he is also one of Germany's most decorated athletes. Rauhe’s illustrious career spanned nearly three decades, during which he won multiple Olympic medals, became a sixteen-time world champion, and cemented his legacy as one of the most successful German athletes of his generation. Yet, despite his vast success, it is Rauhe’s perspective on defeat, failure, and personal growth that stands out in his book, which came to light past September.

Rauhe’s achievements on the water are extraordinary. During his career, he competed in six Olympic Games, winning two gold medals, one silver, and two bronze medals. His 16 World Champion titles further explains his dominance in the sport. However, Rauhe is quick to point out that his journey was not without its sacrifices and hardships. The demanding nature of competitive sports pushed him to constantly step outside of his comfort zone, where unconventional approaches often became the key to his success.

In his book “In einem Boot” ("In the Same Boat"), Rauhe explores not only his personal experiences in the world of elite sports but also delves into broader societal issues. The book was written with Andreas Matlé, a journalist and press spokesperson for the German energy company. Rauhe himself admits that he did not initially envision writing a full autobiography. “I didn’t find my life that interesting,” he confesses. But as the project took shape, he recognized the book’s broader importance, especially in a time when the significance of sports and athletic achievement is being questioned. “Through this book, I hope to inspire others to see the value in pushing beyond the ordinary,” Rauhe says. “Success is not just about winning medals—it’s about becoming the best version of yourself.”

You can find the book in online bookstores, it is available in German language.
