Four gold medals for Spain at Mediterranean Games 24.6.2018

Spanish Canoe Sprinters showed no mercy at the 2018 Mediterranean Games in Spain. They took four gold medals in five events that are held as a part of the Mediterranean Games.

Teresa Portela was the best in women’s K1 200 metres finals, Roi Rodriguez in K1M 500 metres finals, Carlos Garrote in men’s K1 200 metres final and Marcus Cooper – Rodrigo Germade in men’s K2 500 metres event.

The only non-Spanish gold medallist of the day was Serbian Milica Starović who won the title in women’s 500 meters event.

Medals at this year’s Mediterranean Games were won by athletes from Spain, Serbia, Portugal, France and Slovenia.

Majority of the sporting events that are part of the Mediterranean Games is organised in Tarragona, but canoe sprint part of the Games is held in Castelldefels, closer to Barcelona, at a Canal Olimpic de Catalunya. This venue hosted the canoe sprint competition at the 1992 Olympic Games.
