The first race day of the Pyrenees Cup in Pau, the first race which will count for the 2023 ECA Open Canoe Slalom European Cup series, is over and we have the semifinalists of the canoe slalom competition.
French paddler Angele Hug had an excellent day on the rapids of the artificial whitewater channel in Pau. She produced the best times both in women’s kayak and canoe. In kayak sge finished the first heats run more than two and a half seconds ahead of her compatriot Emma Vuitton, while Klaudia Zwolinska from Poland finished the first stage of the race in third position.
Later in the day, Angele Hug again showed good form and won in women’s canoe heats despite the two seconds penalty. Lucie Prioux was second and Czech canoeist and former European Champion Gabriela Satkova was third.
Young Spanish canoe slalom paddler Miquel Trave produced the best heats run in men’s canoe, finishing the race a little less than two seconds ahead of French canoeist Lucas Roisin, while Czech representative Lukas Kratochvil concluded Saturday’s race in third position.
In men’s kayak Australian Timothy Anderson won the heats ahead of Niko Testen from Slovenia, who was only 0.32 seconds behind, and Spanish kayaker Manuel Ochoa was third.
On Sunday, the Pyrenees Cup continues with semifinals and finals as well as kayak cross competition.
