Funk, Herzog, Tasiadis and Maxeiner German Canoe Slalom Champions 9.10.2020

During the German selection races also National Championships took place in Markkleeberg, at the venue which hosted the 2015 ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships. After three days of competitions and six runs of the selection races, also German champions were known. Ricarda Funk, Sideris Tasiadis, Andrea Herzog and Tim Maxeiner took the gold medals in their respective events.

In women's kayak event Ricarda Funk was unbeatable and recorded six wins and of course also celebrated German champion title, "I'm just super happy that I had such a good run. It was almost perfect." Elena Apel finished second and Lisa Fritsche won bronze medal at German Championships.

Apel won her second silver medal of the Championships in canoe event, where reigning World Champion Andrea Herzog took the confident win with three seconds advantage despite picking up two penalty seconds. Lena Stoecklin was third.

In men's C1 event all eyes were on Franz Anton and Sideris Tasiadis and this time it was the latter who picked up gold medal and national champion title. "This is important to me for my development, especially with a view to next year," said Tasiadis. A bit surprisingly Anton finished third, as Timo Trummer squezed himself  into the second position.

In men's kayak final the final race was very tight. Less than a second divided the first two - Tim Maxeiner and Stefan Hengst, while Hannes Aigner won bronze medal. “I tried a few tactical things on the first two days, but I didn't think that it would work like that,” explained the 34-year-old. “That made me a bit unsure how bad it had gone before. I'm just happy that it went so well today, ” summed up the German champion.
