German kayaker expecting her first baby

German kayaker expecting her first baby 5.6.2020

German canoe slalom paddler Jasmin Schornberg announced she is expecting her first baby in November. She took the opportunity in the competition break due to pandemic and decided to put into motion the family planning.

“Corona also has good sides,” said Schornberg with a smile. The baby is due in November, however former World Champion and 2019 European Championships medallist does not consider to put the paddle definitely into the corner.

After last year’s World Championships she considered the retirement and took a three week time off to think about everything. She was left without a coach, but after Klaus Pohlen took over as a head coach in canoe slalom, they had a constructive meeting and she decided to prolong her career to the European Championships, which was scheduled for May in London.

“I was really looking forward to it. I was in top shape,” she said. Despite the pregnancy she still paddles, and she missed the sport during the coronavirus mandatory break, “I missed it very much. It’s not a surprise as I climbed into the boat twice daily for 20 years. Now I paddle two or three times a week, that’s enough, because I just like to do sports and it’s fun to paddle through the waves.”
