German men's team celebrated Canoe Polo World Champion title

German men's team celebrated Canoe Polo World Champion title 20.10.2024

China hosted this year’s edition of the 2024 ICF Canoe Polo World Championships and the World Champion title in men’s senior tournament stayed in the hands of the defending champions from Germany. Italy won silver medal in women’s senior tournament.

Germany once more stood on the highest podium position at the Canoe Polo World Championships after they defeated France with a final score 2-1. German captain Jonas Vieren found the back of the net from a tight angle. He improved that result by launching a powerful shot to put the Germans ahead 2-0. Both teams had many chances, and French team managed to score a goal, but could not over turn the final result.

“I think it's just great teamwork. We work well together. We might not have made the best match in the final, but to be able to beat the French team is great. We do our defensive work, then it will be hard for other teams to score against us. We knew we would score at some point. It worked out in the semi-final and the final as well,” said Vieren for the ICF.

Germany, France, Denmark, Great Britain, Italy and Spain qualified for the World Games in Chengdu next year among men after finishing in the top six.

In women’s senior final New Zealand celebrated gold medal for the first time after 2016. It was a slow start in the final against Italy, but Kiwis took the lead by the end of the first half. The start of the second half was once again in favour of the team New Zealand, and Chiara Trevisan scored the goal for Italians for the final result 6-1.

New Zealand, Italy, the Netherlands, Iran, Germany and Spain secured themselves a place at the World Games.

Bronze medals went to Denmark and the Netherlands in the men's and women's categories, respectively.
