The International Canoe Federation (ICF) has officially announced the allocation of quotas after the 2023 ICF Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe World Championships which was held in Duisburg, Germany, this August.
German canoe sprint team performed well at their home Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe World Championships which also secured them the highest number of quotas for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games so far. After the world championships 28 countries officially eared themselves places at Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Germany is leading with 17 quotas, out of 18 possible to grab. The maximum number of athletes that can be qualified for each nation is 18 - six in each of the men’s and women’s kayak, and three in each of the men’s and women’s canoe. The only quota Germany is still missing at the moment is the women’s C1 200 metres quota. The second chance for European athletes to win a place at the Olympics is next year’s European qualifying event in Szeged.
Following Germany are two strong European nations, who have managed to secure themselves 15 quotas each – these are the teams from Spain and Hungary.
European nations with secured quotas are: Germany (17), Spain (15), Hungary (15), Belgium (3), Bulgaria (1), Croatia (1), Czechia (5), Denmark (6), France (4), Italy (2), Lithuania (5), Moldova (3), Norway (4), Poland (8), Portugal (4), Romania (3), Serbia (8), Sweden (4), and Ukraine (6).
