Golden Czech day at Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships

Golden Czech day at Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships 17.8.2018

The first medallists of the 2018 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships in Bratislava are known. Czech Republic and France were again the strongest nations in team events that were run in a very sunny and hot day. Czech Republic picked up seven medals (four gold) and France five medals.

France celebrated the European Champion title in the first team event of the day. Anatole Delassus, Vincent Delahaye and Julien Pajaud were the fastest in men's junior K1 event. Italy won silver medal with 7.54 seconds slower time than the winner's and Czech Republic was 7.83 seconds behind to win the bronze medal.

Czech Republic reached the top podium position in the following event. Gabriela Satkova, Eva Rihova and Tereza Kneblova were unbeatable in women's junior C1 team race. The differences in the finish were huge. The second placed team from Slovakia was more than 15 seconds slower than the winning team, while Germany in third place crossed the finish line 35 seconds slower than Czech Republic.

Slovenia celebrated an European Champion title in men's U23 K1 team final. Martin Srabotnik, Niko Testen and Vid Kuder Marušič were paddling for the winning team. Slovakia was second and Switzerland third.

Miren Lazkano, Klara Olazabal and Annebel van der Knijff from Spain were the fastest in women's U23 C1 event. France won silver and Slovakia bronze medal. At first it was Czech Republic who was in the second position but after the video review of their run, a 50 seconds penalty was given which pushed them out of the medal positions.

Another gold medal for Czech Republic came in men's junior C1 team race. Vojtech Heger, Petr Novotny and Eduard Lerch are the new European Champions. French canoeists were second and German third.

This was, however, not the end of Czech domination. Antonie Galuškova, Lucie Nesnidalova and Katerina Bekova celebrated the title in women's junior K1 event, ahead of Russia and Great Britain, and men's Czech C1 U23 team celebrated the title thanks to Lukaš Rohan, Vaclav Chaloupka and Matyas Lhota. Slovakia and France joined Czech Republic on the podium.

In the last team event of the championships - women's K1 U23 race - French representatives Camille Prigent, Romane Prigent and Marjorie Delassus showed the best run to celebrate the title. Great Britain was second and Cech Republic third.

In the morning part of the championships the individual heats in men's C1 and women's K1 were organised. Reigning U23 European Champion from Hohenlimburg Marko Mirgorodsky (SVK) set the fastest time in C1 event, finishing ahead of Thomas Abbott (GBR) and Vaclav Chaloupka (CZE). The fastest paddler in men's junior C1 heats was Vojtech Heger (CZE), Nejc Polenčič (SLO) was second and Miquel Trave (ESP) third.

The fastest paddlers in women's kayak events were Anna Faber (GER) in U23 category and Antonie Galuškova (CZE) in junior category. Lea Novak (SLO) and Nikita Setchell (GBR) were second and third in junior event, while Michaela Hassova (SVK) and Marjorie Delassus (FRA) finished the heats in positions two and three in the U23 event.

On Saturday individual semi-finals and finals in women's C1 and men's K1 are scheduled (junior and U23).
