History written at the ECA Open Canoe Slalom European Cup

The Pyrenees Cup, which counted as the ECA Open Canoe Slalom European Cup and the ICF Canoe Slalom World Ranking, has concluded in La Seu d’Urgell. The final day featured the kayak cross events, where Portuguese paddler Federico Alvarenga won the men's final, writing a new chapter in Portugal’s canoeing history. This marks Portugal’s first-ever gold medal in high-level international kayak cross competitions.

Portugals’s Federico Alvarenga claimed victory in a thrilling men's kayak cross final, defeating French specialist Gael Addisson and two Spanish representatives, Manuel Ochoa and Samuel Hernanz. With this win, he placed Portugal on the list of nations that have secured victories in top-level international kayak cross events.

In the women's competition, experienced Spanish paddler Maialen Chourraut, a three-time Olympic medalist, took the top spot. She was followed by her compatriot Nuria Vilarrubla, Andorra’s Monica Doria Vilarrubla, and another Spaniard, Maite Odriozola.

The next race in the ECA Open Canoe Slalom European Cup series will take place in Markkleeberg, Germany, from April 11 to 13.
