Hungarian Canoeing family mourns the death of Gusztav Kadler, vice president of the Hungarian Canoe Federation, who died at the age of 65 after an illness.
Gusztav Kadler was first elected to the position of Vice President of the Hungarian Canoe Federation in 1995, and since then has been coordinating not only competitors from his Club in Gyor, but also the Hungarian national team, leading his team to success in numerous major competitions. Gusztav Kadler was head of the canoeing team at four Olympics: 12 gold medals were brought from Sydney, Athens, Beijing and London. He was also an important player in bringing Canoe Marathon European and World Championships to Gyor.
With his help Gyor turned into one of the most important Hungarian canoeing centres in the last 30 years, helping great athletes, such as Zoltan Kammerer, Krisztina Fazekas-Zur, Renata Csay, Virag Balla, Kincso Takacs and Balint Kopasz, to reach the top of Europe and World.
Gusztav Kadler started his sporting career in handball and switched to canoeing in 1979. He was honorary citizen of Gyor, member of the Hungarian Olympic Committee, and was honored with the Order of the Cross of Merit of the Republic of Hungary.
