It is time for the 2022 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships

It is time for the 2022 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships 8.8.2022

Ceske Budejovice will host the 2022 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships for the first time in history. The opening ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, while the races are on the programme between Thursday and Sunday.

Despite the fact that Czech Republic is one of the strongest nations in canoe slalom and they have organised many successful Senior World and European Championships and World Cups in Prague and also in Roudnice, this will be the first time Czech Republic will host the Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships on its soil.

This will be the 24th edition of Junior Canoe Slalom European Championships and 20th U23 Championships of the Old Continent. The first Junior Canoe Slalom European Championships was organised in 1995 in Liptovsky Mikulas, while U23 Europeans were introduced in 2002 in Bratislava, but were held together with senior European Championships. Junior and U23 European Championships have been held simultaneously from the year 2004 on.

More than 300 athletes from 24 European countries will fight for the European champion titles over four competition days in Ceske Budejovice. Athletes on the start line promise an exciting competition. Many of them have rich experience from senior level competitions, from World Cups to World and European Championships, including medals from recent senior World Championships in Augsburg. We will also see the medallists of July’s Junior and U23 World Championships this week in action on the Vltava River.

Gabriela Satkova, Miquel Trave, Monica Doria Vilarrubla, Vojtech Heger, Anatole Delasuss, Titouan Castryck, Emma Vuitton, Romane Prigent, Mewen Debliquy, Jules Bernardet, Sam Leaver, Jonny Dickson, Paulina Pirro, Lucie Krech, Lucia Pistoni, Elena Borghi, Kacper Sztuba, Eva Alina Hočevar, Jakub Krejci, Antonie Galuskova, Lennard Tuscherer, Dominika Brzeska, Jan Rohrer, Sona Stanovska are just some of the athletes who promise high level competition.

The championships will start on Thursday with men’s and women’s kayak heats (U23 and junior) and team events in the same classes, and on Friday heats and team events in men’s and women’s canoe will follow (U23 and junior). Saturday brings semi-finals and finals in all kayak events as well as extreme slalom time trials, and on Sunday the championships will conclude with canoe semi-finals and finals and extreme slalom.
