Ivrea hosted the sixth race in this year's ECA Open Canoe Slalom European Cup series. The victories were celebrated by Italian and French representatives Stefanie Horn, Giovanni de Gennaro, Marjorie Delassus, and Jules Bernardet.
Saturday featured a hard gate setting on the Dora Baltea River, which proved too challenging for several top athletes who failed to reach the final. By the end of the competition day, it was the Italian and French camps who had the most to celebrate. Competitors came from Italy, Slovenia, France, Spain, Colombia, Ireland, Belgium, Switzerland, New Zealand, Australia, and Great Britain.
In the women’s kayak event, Italian paddler Stefanie Horn claimed a dominant victory, finishing four seconds ahead of Italian paddler Lucia Pistoni in second place. French paddler Marjorie Delassus secured third place.
The men’s kayak win also stayed in Italian hands, with reigning Olympic and European champion Giovanni de Gennaro taking first place. Young Xabier Ferrazzi came in second, just 1.24 seconds behind, after a gate touch cost him two penalty seconds. Third place went to Slovenian paddler Martin Srabotnik.
Both canoe victories went to France. In the women’s canoe final, the Delassus sisters, Marjorie and Doriane, secured a double family win, with Marjorie finishing 2.70 seconds ahead of her younger sister. Italy’s Elena Micozzi took third, less than four seconds behind.
In the men’s canoe final, French athlete Jules Bernardet won a tightly contested race. He edged out Slovenian Luka Božič by 0.41 seconds, while Italian Flavio Micozzi claimed third place.
The next race in the 2025 ECA Open Canoe Slalom Cup Series will take place in August in Bratislava, followed by events in Prague and Epinal.
