Italian teams win Clubs Canoe Polo European Champion titles in their home country 22.9.2019

The 2019 ECA Clubs Canoe Polo European Championships was held this weekend in Port of Catania on Sicily. Seventeen teams from ten European countries fought for the European Champion title in men’s category, and twelve teams from eight European countries contested in women’s category. In women’s final SFE – Pol. Can Catania won gold medal, while in men’s final Pro Scogli Chiavari also from Italy celebrated European Champion title.


In the last match of the 2019 ECA Clubs Canoe Polo European Championships Italian team Pro Scogli Chiavari scored five times and received four goals in a match against German team WSF Liblar to win the European Champion title in men’s category. In a bronze medal match home team of Pol. Can Catania outplayed Germans KSVH Berlin with 7 – 1 to pick up bronze medal.
The top scorer of the tournament was Alejandro Herrero Gordo who scored 18 times, but this did not help his team CdP Vallehermoso Retiro to be higher than in the ninth place. Jan Erik Haack from Pro Scogli Chiavari scored 14 times to be number two on the ranking list, while Dario Stern (KP Zurich) and Ewout Ryckeboer (Ieper) each scored 13 times.
In women’s part of the tournament home team of SFE – Pol. Can Catania won in a final against Dutch team KV Keistad with a final score 5 – 4. Members of ACC Hamburg finished third after their 5 – 2 win against CC Avaranches in a bronze medal match.
Marijke Dijkman (KV Keistad) reached the top scorer title in women’s tournament scoring 14 times. Nais Zanfini (3MCK UC Montpellier) scored 12 times, Sarissa Van Veenendaal (KV Keistad) and Prudence Blyth (FOA Liverpool) each scoring 11 times to be third in the final rankings. In the winning team it was Elena Gilles who scored most goals for the team, finishing the tournament with a total of ten goals.
