Italians dominated in the ECA Open Canoe Slalom European Cup in Meran 28.5.2023

Meran, Italy, hosted the ECA Open Canoe Slalom European Cup race and ICF World Ranking with athletes from Italy, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Germany, Hungary, Greece, Great Britain and Austria on the startline. Three wins stayed in Italy and one went to Czech Republic. The format of the race was heats and final run.


Marcello Beda, the 2021 World Championships silver medallist, was the fastest kayaker of the finals at 2023 ECA Open Canoe Slalom European Cup race in Meran. 28-year-old Italian stopped the clock at 78.24, and was 0.79 seconds faster than his compatriot Matia Poletto. Slovenian kayaker Niko Testen was third, 0.90 seconds behind Beda.

Another great Italian canoe slalom paddler Roberto Colazingari, who won three team medals at senior World and European Championships in the past seasons, was the fastest in men’s canoe final. He was half a second faster than German representative Benjamin Kiesin second place, while bronze medal stayed in Italy thanks to Elio Maiutto.

Agata Spagnol was the winner of women’s kayak final. Italian kayaker had almost a second advantage ahead of her compatriot Carolin Celina Schaller in second place, while Martina Satkova from Czech Republic claimed bronze medal.

In addition to third place in kayak, Martina Satkova celebrated a win in women’s canoe, where she dominated the event. The closest rival Kimberley Rappe from Germany was more than three and a half seconds behind, while another German canoeist Maria Kaup won third place.
