Javier Hernanz will run for a president of RFEP

Javier Hernanz will run for a president of RFEP 9.6.2020

37-year-old Spanish kayaker Javier Hernanz announced he will fight for the position of president of Royal Spanish Canoe Federation. The elections are scheduled for the end of the year.

Javier Hernanz, who won bronze medal at the 2018 World Championships in 5000 metres event, participated at 2004 and 2016 Olympic Games and won a silver medal in K2 event of the Canoe Marathon World Championships and well as five medals at European Championships, would like to be the next president of the Royal Spanish Canoe Federation.

The Asturian announced in a post on his Instagram profile, “I am presenting a candidacy for the presidency of the Federation to try to manage it in the same way that I work in the water. Professionalizing it, giving importance to canoeists and coaches, and working 24 hours a day to give the best possible conditions to those who leave their skin in this sport.”

He would like to divide the RFEP into areas with autonomy and each of them would be in charge of managing their own programme etc., while the president’s job would be management and administration. He also said that the system should be of a inverse pyramid, where clubs, coaches and canoeists, who are the base of the sport, would make the decisions.

Despite the announced campaign, he did not quit canoeing, “I am still paddling, the campaign will be carried out of the water, meaning, we always need to keep contact with the water, paddlers and clubs and be aware of the situation we are experiencing.”
