Czech kayaker Josef Dostal celebrated gold medal in men’s 1000 metres event of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Csipes, Jorgensen, Varga and Kopasz also reached the podium positions.
Three medal events were on the programme of the last canoeing competition day at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. In men’s kayak 1000 metres event Josef Dostal from Czechia upset the favourites on the paper and took the gold medal and Olympic Champion title ahead of two Hungarians Adam Varga and Balint Kopasz who were second and third respectively.
Dostal, who won Olympic medal in Rio 2016, said after the race, “I had dreams about this Olympic Games many times. Having a medal for me was absolutely great but now standing here with the gold around my neck I’m not sure how I am going to stand it. I didn’t feel big pressure before the Olympic Games as the last weeks of the season I took fifth place, but I knew I am in good shape, I am fit but if I improve, I can do better.”
In women’s K1 500 metres final New Zealand’s Lisa Carrington did not allow any surprises and took her third gold medal at Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and her eighth Olympic gold medal in career. Now, she is tied with Germany’s Birgit Fischer who was alone at the top with eight gold medals from Olympics for 20 years. Hungary’s Tamara Csipes came closest to claim silver medal, while Denmark’s Emma Aastrand Jorgensen enriched her medals collection with bronze.
In women’s C1 200 metres final Canadian Katie Vincent won ahead of American Nevin Harrison and Cuban Yarisleidis Cirilo Duboys.
