Katerina Havličkova closed sports chapter of her life 1.11.2020

Czech canoe slalom paddler Katerina Havličkova, nee Hoškova, decided to end her sporting career at the age of 35.


Katerina Havličkova started her carrer in kayak where she won medals in Junior and U23 age groups. Among other, she celebrated Junior European Champion title in K1 in 2003 in Hohenlimburg and was also 2002 U23 European Champion. In addition, she has two silver individual medals from Junior World and European Championships and medals from team events.
 
 
Later she switched to canoe where she celebrated her biggest career success in 2011 when she became World Champion in Bratislava. She finished second at World Championships in 2015 in London. Great run at European Championships in 2016 brought her silver medal, and she won bronze medal at European Championships in 2014. In addition, she was an integral part of Czech women's canoe team on their way to seven medals in team events of European and World Championships. Thirteen medals from World Cup races have also found the place in her medals collection.
 
 
"It was very emotional when I went to tell the commentator that I was starting for the last time, so I cried until the start, but the run was beautiful. Everyone applauded me, so I enjoyed it, and I'm glad I was able to enjoy it like that," Havličkova described with tears in her eyes. At the same time, she also admitted that she will not miss the top training, but she will return to the water soon.
