The sixth and last ECA Wildwater Sprint Canoeing European Cup race of the season 2024 was held this past weekend in Llangollen, Great Britain. Athletes from six European countries took part in the competition and the wins went to Czechia, Great Britain and France.
The River Dee proved to be a real challenge for the athletes competing at the last ECA Wildwater Sprint Canoeing European Cup race of the season 2024. Due to the rapid rising of the water levels the second run of the race had to be cancelled, so the results of the first run were the final results of the race. There were competitors from Great Britain, Czechia, France, Germany, Slovakia and Netherlands on the start line of the race.
In men’s kayak event, the margins were very small between the top competitors. Czech paddler Jan Sindelar was the fastest kayaker of the run, concluding the race in 1:03.16. Only 0.17 seconds behind was Briton Freddie Brown, while Alex Sheppy another local paddler finished the race in third position (+0.89).
British paddlers were top three in women’s kayak event on the River Dee. Molly Sandercock won with a time 1:13.15, which was 2.15 seconds faster than time of Victoria Murray in second place. Laura Milne finished in third place and was 3.54 seconds behind the winner of the race.
The fastest canoeist of the ECA Cup race, which was also the Welsh Open, was France’s Louis Passernig. He stopped the clock at 1:13.31, which was more than four seconds faster time than second placed Tobias Trnka of Czechia produced (+4.26). Nicky Cresser representing the club from Nottingham was third (+5.77).
Only two athletes managed to reach the finish line in women’s C1 event. Here, Czech Alexandra Plachtova (1:23.95) won ahead of Slovak representative Viktoria Scholzova.
