Legendary Michal Martikan won at the ECA European Cup in Liptovsky Mikulas 27.5.2024

Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia, hosted the ICF World Ranking race which at the same time also counted for the ECA Open Canoe Slalom European Cup race series. Legendary Slovak canoeist Michal Martikan recorded a win on his home course.

In the first final of the weekend - men's canoe event - legendary Michal Martikan again showed his skills on wildwater and took the win at his home course in Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia. He was almost six seconds faster than Polish canoeist Szymon Nowobilski in second position, while third positioned Oliver Puchner from New Zealand crossed the finish line 7.75 seconds behind Martikan.

The win stayed in Slovakia also in men's kayak event. All three podium positions were won by Slovaks. Filip Stanko crossed the finish line with a time 97.58, which was 3.24 seconds faster than his teammate Richard Rumansky, while Matus Staffen (+3.87) finished third.

In both women's events, young Czech paddlers dominated in the race, taking all medals in women's kayak and canoe finals. In kayak final, Klara Mrazkova (115.03) took the win ahead of Klara Kneblova (+0.75) and Lucie Nesnidalova (+0.76). In canoe, Klara Kneblova won her second medal of the day, this time gold for producing by far the fastest time of all in women's canoe. She was more than ten seconds faster than Adriana Morenova in second place, and more than thirteen and a half seconds faster than Klara Vojtikova who took bronze medal.

This race was a good test for the athletes who will compete at the 2024 ICF Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom World Championships this July.
