The 2018 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships in Bratislava, Slovakia, kicked off with heats in junior and U23 categories of men's kayak and women's canoe. Mathurin Madore was the fastest in men's U23 kayak heats, Jakob Luther in men's junior heats, while Marjorie Delassus and Eva Rihova led the women's canoe in U23 and junior categories.
The first competition day of Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships in Bratislava brought the first four individual heats. France had a good start to the championships with Mathurin Madore winning in men's kayak U23 qualifications and Marjorie Delassus doing the same in women's U23 canoe event.
Madore closed the day in the first position 1.19 seconds ahead of Slovak Andrej Malek and 1.87 seconds ahead of German kayaker Thomas Strauss.
Marjorie Delassus won today's race in front of Russian canoeist Alsu Minazova and Slovakian representative Simona Glejtekova.
The fastest kayaker of men's junior heats was Italian Jakob Luther, who was the only one in junior event to finish the race under 90 seconds. The clocked stopped at 89.19. Jake Brown from Great Britain finished the day in second place and Jakub Krejci from Czech Republic was third.
Eva Rihova (CZWE) showed the best run in women's junior C1 heats, finishing a little less than two seconds ahead of Ellis Miller from Great Britain who actually picked up two penalty seconds. Aleksandra Stach from Poland was third.
On Friday morning the championships continues with the remaining heats, while in the afternoon we will follow all the teams events.
