Mancarella and Valle defend their parakayak European Champion titles

Mancarella and Valle defend their parakayak European Champion titles 30.7.2023

Six parakayak KL finals were held on the last day of the 2023 ECA Paracanoe and Junior/U23 Canoe Sprint European Championships. Gold medals went to Spain, Italy, Germany and Hungary.

Official European Championships medals were awarded in the four out of six KL finals that were on the programme of the European Championships. Unfortunately, there were not enough participating countries in women's and men's KL1 event, so no anthems were played in honour of the best in these two finals.

The other events were official ones, and Italian Federico Mancarella was able to celebrate another European Championships KL2 gold medal. 30-year-old paracanoeist from Bologna managed to defend his title he won last year at the European Championships in Munich. In addition, he has also a silver and two bronze medals from European Championships, medals from World Championships as well as Paralympic bronze from Tokyo.

Silver medal in the final of the KL2 race in Montemor-o-Velho went to the hands of Ukrainian Mykola Syniuk, the 2022 KL2 World Champion, and bronze medal was won by Austrian Markus Swoboda, who still holds the best European time in this event from 2017.

In women's KL2 event Hungarian parakayaker Katalin Varga took the gold medal, ahead of German representative Anja Adler, while bronze medal was won by Talia Eliat from Israel.

Juan Valle from Spain also defended his European Champion title he won last year in Germany. This time Mateusz Surwilo from Poland and Ron Halevi from Israel joined him on the winner's podium.

In women's KL3 event gold medal went to Felicia Laberer from Germany. Silver medal was won by Lindsay Thorpe (GBR) and bronze by Araceli Menduina from Spain.

Peter Pal Kiss (HUN) was the best in men's KL1 event, which was an non-official European Championships race. Remy Boule (FRA) was second and Robert Suba (HUN) third. In women's KL1 race the win went to Ukraine with Maryna Mazhula, Edina Mueller (GER) was second and Eleonora De Paoli (ITA) third. This too, was non-official event.

The 2024 ECA Paracanoe European Championships will be held in Szeged, together with senior Canoe Sprint and SUP European Championships, between 13th and 16th June.
