Manuel Antonio Campos named best sportsman of Galicia 9.11.2019

Spanish canoe marathon national team member Manuel Antonio Campos, popularly called Tono Campos, has been selected the best sportsman of Galicia, a region in north-western Spain.

34-year-old paddler from Breogán de O Grove Manuel Campos said upon receiving the news on this award, “I am very proud to receive this award. I did not expect it, despite having completed the best season of my career with three medals at European and three medals at World Championships.  I am competing in a discipline that is not Olympic, so the truth is that I am even more proud of what I have achieved. I do not forget to share this award with my family, my coach Luis Padín and with all the people in the club, as well as sponsors and the national police that allows me to make my profession compatible with competitions.”

In 2019 Campos celebrated European Champion title at the ECA Canoe Marathon European Championships in Decize in men’s C1, he picked up silver medal in short distance in men’s C1 and bronze medal in men’s C2 race with Diego Romero. He was even more successful at World Championships that was held in China. There he won two World Champion titles in C1 and C2 again with Diego Romero, as well as silver medal in men’s C2 short race.
