Marco Caldera (1963 – 2017) 8.7.2017

It is with great sorrow that we inform you of the passing of Marco Caldera, former canoe slalom paddler, Italian national team member and national coach.

A great athlete, who passed away following a heart attack after a SUP competition, was born in Ivrea on 21st December 1963 and won several medals at the top level competitions, including a silver medal in K1M team event at the 1989 Canoe Slalom World Championships in Savage River, United States of America. He was also competing in wildwater canoeing.

“Marco has been one of the souls of Ivrea Canoe Club for many years; first as an athlete, then as a technician and manger. Although he lived away from Ivrea, he was always one of us,” said Leonardo Curzio.

Marco was very important in the process of reconstruction of the canoe slalom venue in Ivrea and inclusion of local canoe club into the international competitions calendar, including the 2008 Wildwater Canoeing World Championships. “He presented us idea and opportunity with such enthusiasm and conviction that no one thought to give up this important occasion. He was a tireless worker and always on the front line. Rich in ideas and enthusiasm,” also said Curzio.

We would like to express sincere condolences to his family and friends. Marco, rest in peace.
