Matej Beňuš with a new coach

Matej Beňuš with a new coach 21.12.2018

Slovak canoeist Matej Beňuš, silver medallist of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and multiple medallist of European and World Championships, is preparing for the pre-Olympic season under the supervision of a new coach. He joined forces with his former teammate and 2016 Olympic champion in C2 Peter Škantár.

Since the C2 category will no longer be a part of the Olympic programme, Peter Škantár accepted the offer to become a coach of one of the most successful Slovak sportsmen and canoeists. Matej Beňuš recorded the first major results under Juraj Minčík, then cooperated with Pavel Ostrovský, and he will enter the season 2019 together with his colleague of many years Peter Škantár.

“We have been training together with Peter in the same group since 2004, we know each other like brothers and I look forward to our cooperation. I think this will not be a major change. Not everyone has such luxury to have  coach like this and it is a great motivation for me,” said Beňuš.

“Our goal is clear. Beňuš would like to win a place at Tokyo Olympics and to fight for a medal there. And I will do everything we will achieve this,” said Peter Škantár.
