Max Rendschmidt received Felix Award 21.12.2017

German Canoe Sprinter Max Rendschmidt, two times Olympic Champion (2016 Rio de Janeiro; K2M 1000m, K4M 1000m), has received a Felix Award for the best sportsman of the year in the North Rhine-Westphalia, the most populous state in Germany. 24-year-old paddler has been named sportsman of the year for the second time in a row.

Max Rendschmidt, who was born in Bonn in 1993, has received this year’s Felix award for his outstanding sporting achievements and World Champion title he won in Račice, Czech Republic. Max received the highest support in online voting of about 100.000 sport fans and beat top level athletes from different sports, including his team colleague Max Hoff.

Young German athlete had an amazing season 2016 with two Olympic gold medals, but he did not fall asleep on his success in the season 2017. Together with his colleagues Tom Liebscher, Ronald Rauhe and Max Lemke he picked up two gold medals in K4 at World Cups in Szeged and Belgrade, and crowned the season with gold medal at World Championships in Czech Republic.

“The award was something very special for me already last year after two gold medals in Rio. I would have never guessed it would turn out like that this year again, especially because other nominees were extremely strong. This shows that I have a large fan base. Especially at my home – Bonn area – who have supported me in addition to my family. For that I am very grateful,” said Rendschmidt after receiving his award in Düsseldorf.
