Medals for European canoe sprinters at Super Cup in China 14.10.2024

European canoe sprinters did well at the Super Cup in China, where they competed in single and double boats over two competition days. Double boats included crews from different nations to make the competition even more interesting.


On the first competition day, athletes competed in single boats and four A finals were held. Moldova’s Serghei Tarnovschi took the win in men’s C1 500 metres event ahead of Italy’s Nicolae Craciun and Germany’s Conrad-Robin Scheibner. Denmark’s Emma Aastrand Jorgensen picked up silver medal in women’s 500 metres event, after China’s Nan Wang crossed the finish line with the best time of the final, Michelle Russell of Canada was third. In men’s K1 500 metres event Argentina’s Agustin Vernice won the race ahead of Martin Nathell of Sweden and Italian Samuele Burgo. In women’s C1 500 metres final, there were no European athletes on the podium. Xina Jiang and Shuqi Li were first and second respectively for China, while bronze went to Canada with Sophia Jensen.
 
On the last day of Super Cup double boats were on the programme. Nicolae Craciun and Dawid Szela (ITA) took the win in men’s C2 500 metres final ahead of Chinese Yuebin Yu and Chenwei Yu, while bronze medal went to the mixed Moldovan-Polish duo with Serghei Tarnovschi and Wiktor Glazunow. Italians celebrated a win in men’s K2 500 metres event as well with Samuele Burgo and Tommasso Freschi crossing the finish line ahead of Portuguese duo Joao Ribeiro – Messias Baptista. Argentinean – Spanish duo Agustin Vernice and Francisco Cubelos was third. In mixed K2 500 metres event Emma Aastrand Jorgensen (DEN) and Max Lemke (GER) took the win ahead of Mendgie Yin (CHN) and Agustin Vernice (ARG), while Samuele Burgo (ITA) and Aimee Fisher (NZL) won bronze medal. Serghei Tarnovschi (MDA) and Sophia Jensen (CAN) were the fastest in mixed C2 500 metres final, where Song Xing and Lina Xue (CHN) finished second and Mariami Kerdikashvili (GEO) and Nicolae Craciun (ITA) third. Italian Olympia Della Giustina joined forces with Katie Vincent (CAN) in women’s C2 500 metres final, but two Chinese duos were faster - Anshuo Teng and Xina Jiang won ahead of Shuqi Li and Lina Xue. It was an all Chinese podium in women’s K2 500 metres final. Shimeng Yu and Yule Chen took gold ahead of Ningning Qu - Xuan Li and Han Jiang and Jieyi Huang.
