Canoe Federation of Serbia celebrated medals at last year’s international canoe sprint competitions, including World Championships and Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint European Championships. Strahinja Stefanović and Milica Starović won awards for the best athletes of the year.

Strahinja Stefanović had an excellent season 2019, winning a medal in men’s K1 200 metres event at World Championships in Szeged as well as at European Championships in Račice in the U23 category. Thos brought him the award for the best male athlete of the year.

Milica Starović was named best female athlete of the year. She did not pick up a medal at the major competitions last year, but was very close at European Games in Minsk and at World Championships in Szeged where she secured an Olympic quota.

The best young athletes of the year are Olivera Mihajović and Branko Lagundžić, while Milan Đenadić won the award for the best coach of the year.

“The last year was marked by Strahinja Stefanovič who won silver and Senior World Championships and U23 European Championships. Even more important, he won the quota for Olympic Games, like Milica Starović. Our U23 team was also excellent. They won five medals at European Championships in Račice and we are certain they will continue the successful tradition of winning medals at major competitions,” said Mirko Nišović, president of Serbian Canoe Federation.
