New ECA European Championships locations announced

New ECA European Championships locations announced 2.4.2019

During the ECA Board of Directors meeting following the XIV Ordinary Congress of the European Canoe Association in Belgrade, members of the board discussed the received bids and decided on locations of the upcoming European Championships.

There were three disciplines that were not yet awarded the organisation of the European Championships in 2021. The 2021 ECA Canoe Marathon European Championships was awarded to Moscow, Russia, however the venue is still a subject to technical appraisal and it will be officially confirmed after the inspection of ECA’s technical delegate for canoe marathon.

Similarly, the 2021 ECA Senior Wildwater Canoeing European Championships was awarded to Sabero, Spain, but is also a subject to technical appraisal. Spain was also awarded the 2021 ECA Canoe Polo European Championships which will be held in Burriana.

The 2022 ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships will be organised in Slovakia, more precisely in Liptovsky Mikulaš. The same venue will host this year’s ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships. Canoe slalom paddlers in Junior and U23 category will fight for 2022 European Champion titles in Česke Budejovice, Czech Republic. The 2022 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint European Championships will lead young competitors to Zagreb, Croatia.

The 2022 ECA Canoe Marathon European Championships will be organised in Silkeborg, Denmark. Silkeborg is also known as outdoor capital of Denmark. “I'm extremely pleased that we’ve been able to bring the Marathon European Championships to Silkeborg. Denmark and Silkeborg in particular have a long and proud marathon tradition. The Tour de Gudenaa – one of the oldest and longest marathons – has been centred around Silkeborg for more than 50 years, and Silkeborg has fostered some of the world’s strongest marathon paddlers.  Historically, Denmark is one of the nations which has created and shaped the canoe marathon. European Championships offers our skilled paddlers the exceptional opportunity of competing at home, supported by a home crowd,” said Ole Tikjøb, Chairman of the Danish Canoe Federation.
