Nico Paufler and Niklas Heuser winners of the 2023 Krumlov Canoe Marathon 19.10.2023

Nestled in the heart of the picturesque Czech Republic, the historic town of Cesky Krumlov comes to life each year with the exhilarating spectacle of the Krumlov Canoe Marathon. This year, the prestigious win went to Germany with Nico Paufler and Niklas Heuser who were the fastest in absolute and K2 events.


The 21st edition of the Krumlov Canoe marathon attracted 800 boats and around 1400 participants from 27 countries and five continents, who competed in different events and on three different distances. The main event started in Vyssi Brod, where participants had to paddle on the 36 kilometres long course, the second start was in Rozmberk nad Vltavou, which is 25 kilometres long maraton, and the shortest 11 kilometres long course started in Piskarna Zakovsky.
 
German duo Nico Paufler - Niklas Hauser needed two hours, three minutes and 14 seconds to complete the longest course which bought them the first place in overall standings as well as in men's K2 event. Czech canoe sprint national team members Jakub Zavrel and Radek Slouf were second and one minute behind, while Tomas Jezek and Petr Mojzisek crossed the finish line third, 1:42 minutes behind.
 
The fastest in men's kayak event was Czech paddler Tomas Pavlik, his compatriot Martin Kucian finished second, while Belgium's Jasper Bonte claimed third place. Klara Vankova (CZE), Giulia Formenton (ITA) and Marie Retkova (CZE) were the best in women's kayak event, while Matous Beier, Martin Novak and Adam Ondrich (all CZE) took the top three positions in men's canoe.
 
Czech canoeing couple Anezka Paloudova - Josef Dostal were the best in mixed K2 event, crossing the finish line ahead of two more Czech boats: Katerina Milova - Stepan Tejnora were second and Dan Sedlacek - Barbora Betlachova third.
 
2017 Wildwater Canoeing European Championships silver medallist Eef Meuwissen-Haaze joined forces with Kitty Schiphorst-Preuper (NED) to win in women's K2 event, ahead of two Czech boats Karolina Paloudova - Barbora Dimovova and Marie Nemcova - Klara Sampalikova.
 
Italians Francesco Baldan - Babato Diego Efrem were the fastest in men's C2 event, Poles Tadeusz and Piotr Kapuscinski were second and Czechs Vaclav Sedlak - Matej Kotrba third.
 
Kristina Novosadova and Petr Smakal were the best in mixed C2 event, followed by Ondrej Rolenc - Katerina Duskova and Simon Jelinek - Helena Kudova Hrebcova (all CZE).
 
Slovenia's Tjas Til Kupsch was the fastest paddler in junior MK1 event, Czech Samuel Venjar and Vojtech Stybnar were second and third respectively. Anna Retkova, Michaela Anna Zednickova (both CZE) and Marta Cecconi (ITA) were the fastest trio in women's junior K1 event. Croatian Janko Presecki was the best in junior MC1 race, followed by Czechs Ondrej Kvapil and Jachym Hanzel.
 
Karel Slepica (CZE) was the winner in K1 Sea event, Marian Lachkovic (SVK) in K1 masters, Jan Santora and Jiri Irain (CZE) in C2 touring, Miroslav Herzan - Martin Hrivna (CZE) in MC2 masters event and Daniel Suchanek - Antonin Haleš - Vladimir Slanina - Filip Jelinek (CZE) were the fastest in C3-C4 event.
 
The 2024 edition of the Krumlov Canoe Marathon will be held on 12th October 2024.
