Nuria Vilarrubla opened the season 2019 with a silver medal in women’s C1 final at the ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships in Pau, where she crossed the finish line only behind Briton Mallory Franklin. At the World Championships in Spain Vilarrubla won silver medal in team event alongside Klara Olazabala and Ainhoa Lameiro.

 

David Llorente also had a very memorable season thanks to silver medal at senior World Championships in men’s K1. With this he also won an Olympic quota for Spain in this event. To expand his medal collection he also celebrated World Champion title in men’s team event of World Championships together with Samuel Hernanz and Joan Crespo.

 

The best young hopes of the year are Carla Frieiro and Pablo Sanchez, awards for the best in the U23 category were won by Klara Olazabal and Pablo Grana, the best in paracanoe were Ines Felipe and Juan Valle, coach of the year was Guillermo Diez Canedo. Special mention for outstanding achievements was directed to Tono Campos who won three medal at 2019 Canoe Marathon European Championships (gold, silver and bronze) and three medals at World Championships (two golds and silver).

 

Royal Spanish Canoe Federation also introduced the canoeing legends to the hall of fame. The list of candidates was impressive with David Cal (winner of five Olympic medals), Herminio Menéndez (3), Luis Gregorio Ramos Misioné (2), José María Estaban Celorrio (1), José Ramón López Díaz-Flor (1), Guillermo del Riego (1), Narciso Suárez (1), Enrique Míguez (1), Beatriz Manchón, Izaskun Aramburu, Belén Sánchez, Ana Penas and Sonia Molanes.
