Olympic medal for Sete Benavides after seven years

Olympic medal for Sete Benavides after seven years 8.12.2019

Following the disqualification of the 2012 Olympic Bronze medallist due to positive doping test Spanish canoeist Sete Benavides advanced to the medal position after seven years.

This year’s bronze medallist of the 2nd European Games in Minsk, Belarus, Sete Benavides has advanced to the bronze medal position of the men’s C1 200 metres event at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

28-year-old canoeist from Majorca finished fourth at the Games in London and repeated the same result four years later in Rio de Janeiro. However, following the disqualification of his opponent Alfonso Benavides advanced to the third position.

Lithuanian canoeist Jevgenij Shuklin tested positive at a doping test. The substance that has caused the adverse result of Shuklin in the reanalysis carried out by the IOC is chlorodehydrometiltestosterone (Turinabol), an anabolic-androgenic steroid.

In this race Ukrainian Yuriy Cheban picked up bronze medal, followed by Shuklin and Russian Ivan Shtyl.

Men’s C1 200 metres event was a part of the Olympic programme in Rio, but has been removed for the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo.
