Olympic medallists in the spotlight of ECA European Canoe Slalom Cup in Augsburg 7.6.2022

The biggest canoe slalom race of the season will be Senior Canoe Slalom World Championships which will be held on the 1972 Olympic course exactly 50 years after canoe slalom was first introduced to Olympic programme. Before the world championships kicks off, the world’s best paddlers took opportunity for a training camp and participated at the ECA European Open Canoe Slalom Cup.


Medallists of the Olympic Games were those who showed best form in the Eiskanal. German favourite for the gold medal at World Championships and Olympic champion Ricarda Funk was the fastest in women’s kayak final, finishing the race ahead of current European Champion Stefanie Horn (ITA). 2021 World championships silver medallist Elena Lilik (GER) was third.
 
Slovenian Peter Kauzer was the best in men’s kayak final on a course where he competed already at the 2003 World Championships. Germany’s Stefan Hengst was second and Finn Butcher from New Zealand third.
 
Andrea Herzog (GER) was the fastest canoeist in women’s final, Emanuela Luknarova (SVK) was second and Viktoriia Us (UKR) third.
 
Sideris Tasiadis did not let anyone else but him to take the win at his home course in Augsburg. 2018 World Champion Franz Anton was second and legendary Slovak Michal Martikan third.
 
In extreme slalom, Eva Terčelj (SLO) took the win in women’s event ahead of Caroline Trompeter (GER) and Evy Leibfarth (USA), while  Pedro Goncalves (BRA), David Llorente (ESP) and Martin Dougoud (SUI) took the medals in men’s event.
