Paracanoeists showed their form in paramarathon 20.9.2024

During the ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships in Metkovic, Croatia, paracanoeing athletes took part in the competition, including Paralympic Games medallists Robert Suba of Hungary and Markus Swoboda of Austria.


For the third consecutive year, paracanoeists were able to take part in the Canoe Marathon World Championships as a part of the demonstration races. A record 37 athletes were entered to the competition, coming from ten countries - Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Senegal and Sweden.
 
In terms of participation, men’s KL3 event was the biggest in terms of number of participants. France’s Gabin Keirel finished first, while Great Britain’s Timothy Lodge came second and another Frenchman Yves Grondin was third. Robert Suba was competing in KL1 event, while Markus Swoboda (AUT) won in KL2 event ahead of Mehdi Deghmache (FRA) and Jonathan White (GBR). Agnes Legroux (FRA) was the winner of women’s KL2 event, where Jane Silva and Leonice Friedrich (both Brazil) finished second and third respectively.
 
German representative Moritz Berthold was competing in VL1 event, Robert Suba (HUN) beat Shaun Cook (GBR) in VL2, and Markus Swoboda (AUT) took the highest podium position in VL3, ahead of Brazilians Francisco Silva and Rafael Conceicao. Sophie Brillant (FRA) beat Brazilians Vivian Gomes and Jane Silva in women’s VL3 event.
 
In open event, Timo Lonsdale (DEN), Sebastian Girke and Stefan Glawe (both GER) took the top three positions in men’s event, while in women’s event Leona Johs (GER) beat Jennie Hedren (SWE).
