Polish celebration on day 3 of the 2024 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships in Krakow 17.8.2024

Poland, host nation of the 2024 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships, has a new hero. Young kayaker Hanna Danek won in women's junior kayak final and was crowned European Champion at her home course in Krakow. French team won two gold medals and Great Britain one on Saturday.


British kayaker Ben Haylett is the new U23 European Champion in men's kayak event, following the fastest run of the day in exciting afternoon's final on the Vistula River. The 22-year-old paddler from Derby had a touch on gate eight, but was still fast enough to claim the title ahead of French kayaker Leo Vuitton, who was 0.74 seconds behind also with one touch. Bronze medal went to another Frenchman Edgar Paleau - Brasseur (+1.09).
 
Eva Pietracha from France produced the best run in women's U23 kayak final, and won gold medal and European Champion title with more than a second and half advantage. Silver medal went to the hands of Czech representative Lucie Nesnidalova, who was the 2023 European Champion. She was 1.56 seconds behind Pietracha who succeeded her on the European throne. Slovenian Eva Alina Hočevar, who was second at this year's U23 World Championships in kayak, now won bronze medal (+1.96).
 
In men's junior kayak final Martin Cornu from France won his second individual gold medal of the championships. On Friday, he won in kayak cross individual event, and on Saturday he took the gold medal in kayak with a time 84.78. Žiga Lin Hočevar from Slovenia, the 2024 Junior World Champion in kayak, won silver medal (+0.42), while bronze medal went to the hands of Italian kayaker Michele Pistoni (+2.59).
 
In the last final of the day, women's junior kayak event, local favourite Hanna Danek stood on the highest podium position. Danek, who won silver at this year's junior World Championships, produced a penalty free run and stopped the clock at 100.34. Bara Galuškova from Czechia was a bit faster on the course, but two penalty seconds pushed her to the silver medal position (+1.52). Another Czech kayaker Marketa Hojdova was third (+2.52).
 
On Sunday, the 2024 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships in Poland will conclude with junior and U23 canoe semifinal and final and kayak cross event.
