Portugal aims for two Olympic medals 4.3.2020

Portuguese Canoe Federation (FPC) said the objectives for the Olympic Games are two medals. This was included in the activity plan, approved by the General Assembly.

“FPC aims to win two medals in Tokyo, a competition for which it has already qualified eight kayakers: six in sprint, one in slalom and one in paracanoeing (Paralympic Games),” said the organization.

Portuguese Canoe Federation if the federation with most qualified spots for Tokyo Olympic Games in this European country. Fernando Pimenta, Emanuel Silva, João Ribeiro, Messias Baptista, David Varela and Teresa Portela won the quotas in canoe sprint, Norberto Mourão won a spot in paracanoeing and Antoine Launay in canoe slalom.

So far Portuguese canoeing celebrated one Olympic medal, thanks to Fernando Pimenta and Emanuel Silva in K2 1000 metres event of the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

As the training centre in Montemor-o-Velho was damaged during the floods there was an appeal to the government to accelerate all the necessary support to the municipality of Montemor-o-Velho and the FPC in order to urgently restore the CAR's operational conditions so the trainings could resume normally.
