Preparations for the Wildwater Canoeing European Championships in Skopje have already started

Preparations for the Wildwater Canoeing European Championships in Skopje have already started 20.4.2018

In about three months the 2018 ECA Wildwater Canoeing Junior and U23 European Championships will be held in Skopje, the capital of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. Early in April ECA Wildwater Canoeing Technical Delegate and Board member Manuela Gawehn visited the race courses in Skopje together with the ICF Wildwater Canoeing chairman and committee members.

The reason for the visit was to check the status of the preparations for this event, to approve the race courses and to meet with the local members of the organising committee. During the time of the visit the first ECA Wildwater Sprint Canoeing European Cup was held on race course in canyon Matka and some issues with the place of the beam and live results links were solved on place. But there are still some tasks to do for the organising committee which could be discussed and will be fixed until the beginning of the Europeans Championships which is scheduled between 1st and 5th of August.

Most important thing was to clarify the classic course that will be on different course as it was last year’s Senior European Championships. The start of the classic course will be the same as the start later for sprint in canyon Matka and the finish approximately 3 kilometres downstream where organisers found good place to manage all logistics and teams have sufficient space for parking of their vans and trailers.

Manuela Gawehn was satisfied after her visit, “We left with a good impression of the preparations, and we are confident that the organisers will put on a very good event even if they have many more things to do! The organisers will have enough volunteers on site who will be recruited them from the university, which reassures me a little bit of getting the tasks done.”
