The Pyrenees Cup race in La Seu d’Urgell counted for the 2023 ECA Open Canoe Slalom European Cup series, just like the race a week before in Pau. In the first final of Sunday’s competition programme, Monica Doria Vilarrubla from Andorra took the win in women’s kayak final ahead of Ukrainian representative Viktoriia Us. The difference between the top two finalists was a little more than four seconds. Spain’s Laia Sorribes was third.

 

Miquel Trave took the win on his home course in men’s kayak final, stopping the watch at 89.90. Timothy Anderson from Australia was second in this final, 1.29 seconds behind, and Swiss Gelindo Chiarello was third, 1.90 seconds behind Trave.

 

Miren Lazkano, former European Champion, was the fastest in women’s canoe final. She was more than five and a half seconds faster than her colleague from the Spanish national team Lara Olazabal, who picked up four penalty seconds. Polish canoeist Aleksandra Stach was third.

 

Swiss paddler Thomas Koechlin, the 2017 Canoe Slalom European Championships silver medallist, produced the best final run in men’s canoe. Miquel Trave was close to securing himself a double win of the day, but the mistake and consequent two seconds penalty pushed him to the second place, with +1.26. Irish canoeist Robert Hendrick was third.

 

After the canoe slalom finals, athletes also fought for the top positions in the kayak cross. Olatz Arregui (ESP) was the best in women’s final, she crossed the finish line ahead of Klaudia Zwolinska (POL) and Katerina Bekova (CZE), while in men’s kayak cross final Martin ougoud (SUI), Pau Echaniz (ESP) and Jan Rohrer (SUI) took the top three positions.
