Ricarda Funk has been one of the best canoe slalom paddlers in the world for years now. 25-year-old Funk has been an Overall World Cup series winner in the past two seasons (2016, 2017). Last year she stood on the podium of all five World Cup events. She started with bronze medal in Prague and after that she produced the best runs in women’s K1 finals in all four remaining races of the season, securing herself another Cup for excellent performances in the series. Not only that, she also won two medals at World Championships in Pau. She finished third in individual event and celebrated a World Champion title in team’s event together with Lisa Fritsche and Jasmin Schornberg. Funk was not able to receive an award in person as she is still in Australia preparing for the new season.

 

 

Sideris Tasiadis, like Ricarda Funk, dominated the 2017 World Cup series and was an overall winner of the competition. 2012 Olympic medallist won the first World Cup race in Prague and was the fastest also in Ivrea, while he finished second in front of German fans in Augsburg and Markkleeberg. He was also a member of the men’s C1 team which celebrated European Champion title in Ljubljana – Tacen early in June 2017. His title of the city’s Sportman of the year was unquestionable. He received 89 points while his closest rival Alfred Finnbogason (football player) settled with 55 points.
