The organisation of the 2021 ECA Wildwater Canoeing European Championships was awarded to the Royal Spanish Canoe Federation and after the technical inspection of Manuela Gawehn, ECA’s Wildwater Canoeing technical delegate, the location of the next senior Wildwater Canoeing European Championships is confirmed. Sabero will welcome Europe’s best paddlers between 5 and 8 August 2021.
This year the best wildwater canoeing paddlers fought for the World Champion titles in La Seu d’Urgell and in two years they will return to Spain to fight for the European Championships medals. The confirmed date of the championships is 5 – 8 August 2021.
ECA’s technical delegate Manuela Gawehn visited the venue this summer and was satisfied with the venue and possibilities to organise the big sporting event, but some improvements before the championships are still welcome and needed.
With this in mind municipality council wishes to carry out some improvement works which need the approval of Duero Hydrographic Confederation. The planned investments are worth approximately 50 thousand Euros.
To organise the event temporary containers will be installed close to the river, which will be a difficult task due to irregularity of the land. Besides this the organisers and municipality plan to improve the electricity supply at the venue which will be used for all the technical equipment needed for the organisation of the Championships.
Of course some improvements will be done in the competition channel. The existing rocks and obstacles have been installed in the seasons 2012-2013 and have been displaced because of the river flow, so the plan is that the rocks are repaired and substituted with new obstacles to ensure the good rapids and eddies. As Diario de Leon reports, they expect some advice and help provided by the federation.
