30-year-old French canoe freestyler Sebastien Devred was in a spotlight on the opening day of the 2021 ECA Canoe Freestyle European Championships in Vaires-sur-Marne.
This year’s ECA Canoe Freestyle European Championships takes place in Vaires-sur-Marne, on a course set to host the 2024 Olympic Games. The French favourite Sebastien Devred showed good form on the opening day of the championships.
In senior men’s kayak surface qualification round 36 competitors from France, Poland, Ireland, Spain, Belgium, Great Britain, Finland, Germany and Austria fought for the ten places in Friday’s semifinal. It was Devred who had a total of 2563.33 points and finished the opening day on the top of a scoreboard.
David McLure from Ireland was second with 2396.67 points, and Harry Price from Great Britain finished third with a total of 2110.00 points. Joaquim Fontane I Maso (ESP), Michal Sobieraj Jakubiec, Tomasz Czaplicki, Bartosz Czauderna (all POL), Tom Dolle (FRA) and Visa Rahkola (FIN) also advanced to the semifinal run of men’s senior kayak event.
Fourteen athletes from France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Spain and Czech Republic participated in senior men’s canoe decked event Again, Sebastien Devred showed the best moves that earned him a total of 1206.67 points. Philip Josef from Germany was second with 953.33 points and Tom Dolle from France third with a total of 830.00 points. The semifinal of this event is also scheduled for Friday.
On Thursday, we will follow senior women’s kayak surface heats, and junior men’s and women’s kayak surface qualifications.
