Semifinalists of the ECA European Open Canoe Slalom Cup in Pau are known 7.5.2022

The second race in the traditional Pyrenees Cup series takes place this weekend in Pau. This race also counts for the 2022 ECA European Open Canoe Slalom Cup series. Marie-Zelia Lafont, Mathurin Madore, Monica Doria Vilarrubla and Liam Jegou were the best in Saturday’s heats.


Athletes from eleven countries are on the start line of the Pyrenees Cup race in Pau. In a strong competition Mathurin Madure (FRA) won in men’s kayak heats, 0.70 seconds ahead of Benjamin Renia and almost two seconds ahead of Noe Perrau.
 
Marie-Zelia Lafont, who has two wins at the ICF World Cup in Pau, won in women’s kayak heats. Her compatriot and French teammate Angele Hug was second in the first stage of the competition and Spanish kayaker Julia Cuchi was third.
 
Irish canoeist Liam Jegou who trains in Pau was the fastest in men’s C1 heats. France’s Cedric Joly was faster on the course but had a touch, which pushed him to second place. Luiz Fernandez from Spain was third in heats.
 
Monica Doria Vilarrubla from Andorra produced the best run in women’s C1 heats. Ellis Miller from Great Britain was second and Lucie Baudu from France third.
 
On Sunday the semifinal and final runs are on the programme as well as extreme slalom.
