Serbian canoe team awaits European Championships well equipped 7.3.2018

Belgrade will host the 2018 ECA Canoe Sprint and Paracanoeing European Championships between 8th and 10th June with around 1000 athletes from 36 countries expected to attend this sporting event. Serbian team will be strong and wishes to achieve great results in front of their home crowd. One of the things that might catapult their paddlers to European peak is the new and modern equipment Serbian federation received as a donation made by the Government of the Republic of Serbia.

Serbian Minister of Youth and Sport Vanja Udovičić, who is a former water polo player and three-times Olympic medallist (2004, 2008 and 2012), handed over to the president of the Serbian Canoe Federation Mirko Nišović, 1984 Olympic gold and silver medallist himself, a new sports equipment which was financed by the Serbian government. Serbian federation received 37 new boats and 20 ergometres.

“We wish that our kayakers have the same conditions as their colleagues in Europe and around the world, because they have already showed with their results they are a part of European and World elite. Likewise, our goal is to secure excellent conditions and good equipment to motivate young people as much as possible to decide and train canoeing, so our base will grow and we will have even more champions,” said Udovičić during his visit at Ada Ciganlija.

Mirko Nišović expressed gratitude, “These 37 boats and 20 ergometres represent the biggest investment so far, since the Federation was founded. I would like to thank the Ministry and the Serbian Government because now our paddlers received excellent and modern equipment for trainings and competitions, and now it up to them to bring us the medals.”

One of the best Serbian paddlers Nikolina Moldovan was also very happy after receiving the new equipment, “The ministry bought us the newest equipment and we are very grateful. This will be very important for our trainings and competitions ahead of us on our road to Olympic Games in Tokyo.”
